Leonie Bailey

L.L.B (Hons), Dip Proj Mgt

Principal Lawyer

Practising in Family and Criminal Law, I spend most of my time working in Western Australia and Victoria. I'm a formally trained collaborative practitioner and a nationally accredited mediator.

The use of multi-disciplinary skills and experience, both in life and the law, give me the grounding to offer support to my clients while assisting them to obtain the best results when resolving their disputes. Whenever possible I encourage clients to resolve family law matters without going to Court. Through negotiation, and by focusing on the best interest of the parties and their children, I assist clients to achieve a successful outcome without resorting to stressful and expensive litigation.

The most satisfying part of being a collaborative lawyer is working as part of a team in an empathic and supportive environment. I enjoy helping clients to develop creative and flexible solutions to disputes in a respectful, timely and cost efficient manner. When I see clients moving forward, each on a new path, while acknowledging the importance of continuing to communicate with each about their children, I get a great sense of fulfilment.

When assisting criminal clients I offer supportive advice and provide robust representation before the Court.

I not only enjoy practising law, I cherish spending time with my amazing family and pursuing my hobby, photography.

Principal Lawyer

My legal experience and interests are in Family Law, Intervention/Restraining Orders and Crime. I practice in both Victorian and Western Australia Jurisdictions. I come to the law with a sold background in the health and education industries.

With a background in the health industry and child development, I consider the context of a client’s family and their life circumstances when trying to resolve their legal issues. I realise that perhaps more than in any other area of law, a Family Law matter is stressful and potentially damaging to everyone in the family, particularly when there are children involved. For this reason, I try to settle matters through negotiation, rather than heading straight to a court.

I have a particular interest in working with families experiencing Family Violence. This includes assisting them to manage the impact of violence on their legal issues. The sorts of decisions needed to be made in a Family Law matter can be especially difficult for clients where violence exists within the family.

When it comes to Criminal Law, it’s important to work understand the context and circumstances of the individual client and the charges they face. I have represented clients facing charges in Magistrates' Courts across Victoria and in the Pilbara.

When I'm not practising law, I can be found watching my beloved Essendon Bombers, spending time with my family and walking my two dogs.
